Belle & Sebastian’s masterpiece The Life Pursuit came in at #86 in Pitchfork’s ’00s list feature. I wrote the blurb, and I hope that you appreciate that I kept myself from baiting people by making it clear that this is Belle & Sebastian’s best album. I say that as a person who bought If You’re Feeling Sinister at the age of 16 in 1996. It’s just the truth, and you should accept it.
He’s right. Sinister wins for sentimentality (and that awesome live version released on iTunes a few years back, right around the time of The Life Pursuit appropriately enough), but The Life Pursuit is their apex at this point.
