Talking Heads- “Once In A Lifetime”
Making quotidian wonder into religious ecstasy is something I am a fool for having ignored in this song and it is now making me pay for it by blowing my head off this morning. Like, in that way where you have to jump-back-20 seconds to verify how awesome individual moments are serveral times throughout.
Completely agree. This band is a series of minor revelations every time I listen.
I’m also completely in awe of this performance and Stop Making Sense as a whole. I love how each song is shot differently - different lighting, camera techniques, staging, etc. The crazy part of “Once in a Lifetime” is that it goes over four minutes before it changes camera angles (4:21 in the clip before the shot changes). Aside from a few seconds at the beginning, the camera stays on (and follows) David Byrne, focusing our attention directly on his evangelist routine. There’s nowhere else to divert your attention to (aside from Chris Frantz, but only barely) and there’s nowhere else your attention should be.
